Our Beliefs
core beliefs centered on God’s Word
-
God is the Creator and Ruler of everything. He has no beginning and will have no end. He is wholly good and without error. He is eternally revealed as three-in-one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 90:2; John 15:26; Colossians 1:16)
-
God makes all men and women in His likeness. Therefore, from conception until its natural end, every life is of extreme value and worth. However, all people have become marred by sin: an attitude of selfishness, rebellion, and disobedience toward God. Because God would not be just if He allowed sin to permanently exist, all people’s inherent destiny is to remain separated from God and spend eternity in hell.
(Genesis 1:27; Psalm 5:4; 139:13-16; Isaiah 53:6a; 59:2; Romans 3:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:9)
-
Jesus is co-equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. He is the only person who lived sinless on earth, as He was both fully God and fully man. Jesus willingly died upon a cross to absorb God’s just wrath at humanity’s sin, and yet He rose again on the third day, proving He is more powerful than sin and death. After appearing to many witnesses, He ascended to rejoin the Father, from where He will return to judge all people. Though all are guilty, God graciously offers pardon to anyone who believes that Jesus’ sacrifice offers the only way for the unpayable debt of sin to be forgiven. Those who acknowledge Jesus as rightful ruler obtain lasting peace with God, and will be united with Him in heaven forever.
(John 1:1,14; 3:16-17; Acts 1:11; Romans 6:23; 10:9; 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4; Hebrews 4:15; Revelation 20:12; 21:3-4)
-
Under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, God used human authors to reveal Himself and declare His message. Because the Bible is inspired by God, it is everlasting truth without any mixture of error, and is not subject to cultural revision.
(Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
-
‘Church’ is not a building or an event; rather, it is a God-gathered group of people. God’s desire is for His church to be known for their care, compassion, service, and love. What sets the church apart from other social institutions, however, is its primary mission to love God and proclaim His goodness to the world. The success of a church is measured by its faithfulness to encourage fellow sinners to turn to Jesus for forgiveness, and fellow believers to continue trusting in Jesus’ reign. The church strives to help each other grow in Christlike character and joyfully obey Jesus’ commands (including immersion, disciple-making, and radical generosity).
(Matthew 22:37-39; 28:18-20; Luke 9:23-24; John 13:34-35; Acts 2:41-45; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; 1 Peter 2:5)
Our Values
these are what make Fireside, Fireside.
-
We choose relational attentiveness, warmth, and honesty over performance, perfection, and pressure.
This means:
We prioritize a welcoming, lived-in environment where people feel seen
We act faithfully instead of waiting until things are “perfect”
We resist performance pressure, hype, and overproduction
We cultivate an atmosphere of joy, welcome, and shared life
This protects us from:
Turning church into a show, chasing trends, or creating spaces that feel impressive but impersonal. -
We lead—especially as leaders—with honesty, vulnerability, and truth.
This means:
Leaders model real faith, not curated spirituality
Doubt, questions, grief, and imperfection are welcome
Worship is sincere, not performative
This protects us from:
Hypocrisy, spiritual posturing, and unsafe environments. -
Church is something we practice together, not something we consume.
This means:
We invite people to serve, share, pray, and lead early
Stories, meals, and relationships matter as much as sermons
We design gatherings to engage people, not impress them
This protects us from:
Consumer Christianity and passive attendance. -
We care more about who people are becoming than how things look.
This means:
We emphasize daily obedience to Jesus, not curated spirituality
We value slow growth, faithfulness, and depth over quick wins
We measure success by transformation, not numbers or perception
We celebrate the unique way God forms each person
This protects us from:
Image-driven ministry, performance pressure, burnout, and shallow discipleship. -
We submit our lives to Jesus and His Word, even when it’s uncomfortable.
This means:
We allow Scripture to shape our beliefs, habits, and decisions
We follow Jesus beyond what feels familiar, convenient, or popular
We choose faithfulness over personal taste—individually and together
We obey Jesus with trust and joy, not resentment or fear
This protects us from:
Preference-driven faith, theological drift, and comfort without conviction. -
We give away responsibility and trust the Holy Spirit in people.
This means:
We develop leaders instead of bottlenecking decisions
We release people into ministry before they feel “ready”
We coach and support rather than micromanage
This protects us from:
Leader-centered ministry and dependency culture. -
We freely give our time, energy, resources, and attention.
This means:
We meet needs in practical, loving ways
We share responsibility, credit, and leadership
We hold our plans, money, and schedules with open hands
This protects us from:
Scarcity thinking, territorial leadership, and inward focus. -
We orient our life together around God’s mission, not our convenience.
This means:
We prioritize reaching our neighbors and community over maintaining church preferences
Families matter—faith fits real life where people already live, work, and gather
We gather beyond Sundays in homes, meals, and everyday spaces
This protects us from:
Inward focus, insider thinking, and mission drift.
Our Community
Scotia - Glenville - Burnt Hills
Scotia, Glenville, and Burnt Hills are small but vibrant towns just outside of Schenectady, nestled in New York’s Capital Region. Our community is full of families, long-time locals, and new neighbors who value good schools, tight-knit neighborhoods, and the beauty of the Mohawk Valley.
Yet behind the busyness and charm, many in our area are searching—for purpose, for peace, and for a place to belong. With less than 1% of people connected to a gospel-centered church, the need for hope is real. That’s why Fireside Church exists: to help our community follow Jesus, so every household knows they are seen, loved, and never alone.
Our Story
Fireside Church began with a simple conviction: people in Scotia–Glenville and Burnt Hills need hope, and that hope is found in Jesus. We saw a community where families are busy, faith often feels distant, and many have never experienced the love of a gospel-centered church.
So we started small—gathering people together, opening the Bible, and creating space for authentic relationships. Around living rooms and tables, and now every Sunday at the Glenville Senior Center, we’ve grown into a family of disciples who want to follow Jesus daily and help others do the same.
Our name, Fireside, reflects our vision: the warmth of community, the light of Christ in the darkness, and the kind of conversations that change lives. We believe church isn’t just a service to attend—it’s a family to belong to. That’s our story, and we’d love for you to be part of it.
